Anyone with half an eye on the local music scene cannot have failed to have seen Bournemouth’s Tim Somerfield, known as the Afro Ninja due to his mountain of thick dark hair. He has performed over 1000 shows in the past four years armed just with his acoustic guitar, a loop pedal and his considerable voice. As well as having a massive repertoire of covers for his pub and wedding gigs, Tim also has a host of original music which he lovingly creates in his spare time. His latest offering is new single “Colour Blind”, a tune which he recently performed to a large crowd at this Summer’s “Grooves On The Green” in Ashley Cross. The tune was recorded with the help of Matt Black at Hangover Hill Studios, along with Philip John on bass/backing vocals and Adam Harrison on drums. The track can be heard below on a professionally shot video, which mixes live performance with shots of Tim walking through familiar landmarks in his hometown of Bournemouth. The video was put together by locally renowned filmmakers Crispy Jacket Studios.
The tune really digs deep and brings out some of Tim’s best characteristics with some great guitar work; coupled with his impressive vocal delivery, along with his band providing some infectious toe-tapping rhythms. Tim explains “the song is quite ambiguous in its meaning but I think at its core it’s trying to say, sometimes people get so wrapped up in their own problems they lose perspective. These people that I am calling “colour Blind” are those that only see their negatives – missing all of the finer nuances, colour, and opportunity that there is in the world. It was inspired by my struggles actually, with some personal issues; and partly yelling at the people who were moaning about what I perceived to be small troubles, but also at myself and anyone who believed their issues in life are the be all and end all. Open your eyes and see how much else there is in your life. It ain’t so bad, and if it is it doesn’t have to be”. Tim is also releasing another single in October called “Winter Is Coming”, a song inspired by the TV Series Game Of Thrones. This remarkable young man continues to immerse himself in music, pushing himself in all areas to achieve. This hard work is so deserving of bigger stages and more recognition.
