Chaplin’s Cellar Bar, Boscombe

Voodoo Vegas

2014 has been an amazing year for the Bournemouth based Rock band Voodoo Vegas. The band have been off around Europe performing at a host of festivals in Spain, Luxemburg, France, Holland and Belgium. They have also bagged themselves a major support slot with Status Quo at large show in Holland. After the release of the debut album “The Rise of Jimmy Silver” the band have gained much positive attention from the music world and it seems all their hard work is paying off.

Tonight the band have a small diversion in the form of an intimate gig at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar, in front of their hometown crowd. The band have not played locally since their rain-hit appearance at the Christchurch Music Festival in July. The five piece band cram themselves onto the small Cellar Bar stage and are glad they don’t have their occasional keyboard player with them tonight-there just is not room. The band’s regular gigging is certainly evident in the performance as they seem tighter than ever with an ever evolving sound.

As well as the classic Voodoo Vegas tracks there is evidence that the material for the band’s 2nd album is coming along nicely. After an initial struggle the bands creative streak continues with some great new tracks including the full-on rocking “No Escape” and a epic song called “Hypnotise” which features some really skilful work by their two talented guitarists. The set also includes a surprise cover; “Mountain Man” from a now gone local band called “Mr Fungus”, which featured Voodoo Vegas’s very own Nick Brown on guitar.

The band perform a solid 90 minute set in front of many of their friends and family, showing everybody why their style of Classic Rock has taken the band on such a journey. The evening ends on a high with the mighty “King without a Crown” and the traditional ending of “Jimmy Silver”. The band return to Bournemouth for a Christmas show in the Square on the 13th December-rumour has it that the band will be wearing nerdy Christmas jumpers and singing some Christmas classics.
