Hope Fm Studio, Bournemouth
The Paper Trains are a three piece Anglo Americana group from Southampton who formed in 2011 as a duo and then shortly after introduced a double bass player “JB” to make three. The band’s musical style takes influences from the world of blues, folk and country. Their huge repertoire includes a host of covers by their favourite artists and well as many original self penned numbers The live set is said to be a union of elegant back-porch ditties and high-energy gritty foot stompers. A debut album is in the pipeline and should see the light of day later on in the year.
The band have a whole host of festivals booked this year including Outcider, Boomtown, Wonky Donk, Rhythm Tree, Big Bike Bash and the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth.
The very lively trio arrived in the Hope FM studio with their friend, fellow musician Ski Daddle formerly of Pronghorn and now of local hoedown heroes The Jimmy Hillbillies. It is very unusual for a Southampton band to be let into the studio and particularly one with a banjo but after some deceit and lies from Ski Daddle they were let in. They some how they slipped through our local Dorset only and no banjo rules. To be honest we were extremely pleased they did as the evening was hugely successful with some excellent banter and great music which enjoyed by all. They performed a great selection of tracks including a version of “Wagon Wheel” with Ski Daddle who just so happened to bring his rather well used and battered washboard with him, but thankfully left his “Didge of Doom” at home.
