The Anvil, Bournemouth

Conan

Mongol General: What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. And to play HUGE riffs at a MASSIVE volume!

Liverpool trio Conan hit the Anvil with all the subtlety of a broadsword for Southern Doom Crewís latest show. Greenhorn kick things off with their original sounding heavy doom as people are still arriving from upstairs, the venue gradually fills up and Greenhorn produce a killer set. Airing their new track Enemies and then getting In The HIlls vocalist Choff up to sing with them on closer Witches Bridle.

Conan tour mates Bast are magnificent, ponderously heavy with huge progressive overtones. Majestically entwining melodies with huge riffs. They were sonically on form and pound the living shit out of the crowd.

Seabastard were relentless, downtuned to the max and playing songs that dragged on longer than a politician at a party conference! They produced a supreme cacophony that left everyone drained… excellent stuff!

The headliners Conan brought their four massive cabs with them that guaranteed the loudest gig The Anvil had witnessed. The crowd’s anticipation was palpable and when the trio plugged in and played you could feel the energy release. One doom crushing song followed another and as the sound waves battered the audience, you could tell we were witnessing something special.

Their current single “Foehammer” sounded absolutely immense, shaking the rib-cages and rattling the craniums of everyone packed into the small venue. Conan are the heaviest band I’ve seen so far at the Anvil and the riffs they expel are what Hyborian legends are made of.
