Dorset Based singer/songwriter Taya Minchington releases the follow up to her debut “Dragon Eyes” EP on the 1st August. Taya has teamed up with Matt Black of Hangover Hill Studios in Blandford to create a fun, upbeat Summer single called “Penny Games”. The tune was written about a date in a games arcade and Taya wanted to create a vibe inspired by the sounds of the 80s and retro video games of the time. Taya and Matt had great fun trawling the archives to find samples to create just the right backdrop to the song.
The tune starts with acoustic guitar and gentle rhythms before Taya’s idyllic voice brings you right into the middle of a retro trip through some well put together textures and sounds. Matt Black has certainly got the knack of taking an idea and turning it into something special without ripping out its heart. It’s hard to believe that Taya is still only 14 years old and for someone of that age producing music of this quality is hard to fathom. Her live experience includes performances at a host of festivals; Alresford Music Festival, Winchester Hat Fair, Dorset Midsummer Music Festival and a very memorable performance at the Beautiful Days Festival run by The Levellers in Devon. The single equals the addictive nature of penny arcades as once you heard it you will want to take another listen. This young lady continues to forge forward with a future career in music beckoning if she continues with quality like this.
