Hailing from Watford “The Wicked Jackals” is a melodic four-piece Rock band who formed after a chance meeting by frontman/guitarist Ollie Tindall and drummer James Norkett outside a local nightclub, which led to the recruitment of Lex Gifford on bass and Marty Venus on guitar.
The band used their combined talents to put together a repertoire of songs and “The Wicked Jackals” were born. To date the band have been put through their paces opening shows for Chris Holmes (ex-W.A.S.P), Jizzy Pearl, Guns 2 Roses, Damn Dice, New Device, Tequila Mockingbyrd, Stone Broken, Metalworks, StopStop and many more. They have a host of gigs over the Summer including one at Nozfest in Southampton at The 1865, on the bill with Those Damn Crows and Massive Waggons.
The band is releasing their debut 5 track EP at the beginning of July called “About Time”, which features everything you would expect from a rock n roll band. They have taken some major influences of some of their combined favourite rock bands and then pooled together to create their own exciting new sound. Kicking off with “Ain’t Gonna Change” there are some ground-shaking bass lines before the notable guitars light up, with a sound that’s a cross between early Guns n’Roses and Steel Panther; with a subtle nod to “Death To All But Metal”. Ollie’s weathered vocals sound dirty and right on the money.
The big melodic sound continues with “Fortune N Glory” and the band’s anthem “She’s Gone To The Dogs” which shows them at their creative best with this huge tune. “Laying down The Law” shows a slight change of mood without giving up the momentum and “Scream” increases the pace, a tune that would easily start a hectic mosh pit in any crowd. A fine debut and one that should soon see the band rubbing shoulders with more musical greats across our fine Country.
