Five-piece multi genre-inspired band “Ayveon” from Bath have just released their debut self-titled EP. The name “Ayveon” (A boy’s name) has a meaning that represents innovation, independence, determination, courage, sincerity, and activity. If the band live up to many of these characteristics then they could quite well be on to something special. The band formed out of a collective passion for electro/pop/rock with their main inspirations coming from bands such as “Wolf Alice”, “Metric” and the “Yeah Yeah Yeahs”.
The EP kicks off with the thoroughly addictive “Torn Pages” which combines guitars and synths equally with Cait’s smooth vocals, bringing it all together. The tune has a sort of “math rock” feel with many unexpected twists and turns along the way. “Let Me Go” is a more rocky affair with much more prominent electric guitars and heavier rhythm. The vocals show Cait and EJ combining well with some impressive harmonies.
The drum intro to “White Blinds” suggests another change in style and this track shows the band stretching their legs and upping the pace with some nice intricate guitar work. The pace is slowed down for the much darker “Selfish” which shows the hurt people can give eachother when they just think of themselves. Cait passionately delivers a heartwrenching vocal delivery which certainly gets to the point. The EP signs off with “Secret”, a tune which again shows the rockier side of the band and once again some really impressive guitar creations. This band are only in the genesis of their career and clearly have plenty of talent. This debut EP shows plenty of potential and should set them on their way quite nicely.
