Live and Unheard, a collaboration with Bournemouth-based recording studio Hangover Hill, kicks off with its inaugural gig on 5 December featuring headliners Brothers Grimmer – a world-class rock group who have built up a solid underground following – with support from incredible solo performer Tim Somerfield.
Hangover Hill’s founder, musician and record producer Matt Black has been performing professionally since 1992. Beginning his career as a hotel pianist, these days he is much in demand as an entertainer for large corporate events where he has performed alongside the likes of Boy George and Brian Connolly. He opened Hangover Hill studios, which he runs with fiance Mel, to produce and promote not just his own work, but that of other emerging artists in the locality. He writes a regular music business column in for Southampton-based AND Magazine as well as working closely with many local radio stations as both a content provider and as a presenter himself. He is also an ambassador for Write It Down Records, a Bournemouth-based charity fundraising record label.
“The idea for an event at Lighthouse was initially put to us by a mutual business contact, Mark Patrick, who knows a lot about what we do and our aim to keep up and coming original artists in the spotlight,” explains Matt. “We thought this would be perfect for what we are trying to achieve next – a different platform for these artists that they wouldn’t normally have, which in turn would make their original music available to a much wider audience. We will be showcasing all genres of music so there is literally something for everyone.”
The first Live and Unheard gig will take place in the Sherling Studio at Lighthouse on 5 December, with regular monthly events on the first Wednesday of each month. Tickets priced at £9.50 are on sale now from the Lighthouse ticket office.
