Lady Winwoods Maggot

Lady Winwoods Maggot are one of the area’s most popular live bands and have been performing around the pubs, clubs and Festivals for a little over 21 years. Their humour, style and ability to absorb change are certainly some of the reasons that their loyal fan base return back to their gigs each time. They refused to be pigeonholed and at each gig they will surprise you with a new influence you would not expect to see. The have created their own genre “Death Western” and describing themselves as “Sometimes an angel choir, sometimes a chainsaw going through puppies, or The Clash mating with Johnny Cash”. They fuse traditional American and Irish music with self-written songs and covers, presenting them with an old-school Punk attitude. Banjo, Mandolin and Acoustic Guitar are backed with thunderous ground shaking Drums and Bass.

The band have a new album out this Winter called “Lucky Dip”. It is slightly different from any of their previous releases as it comes in a pink and white striped paper bag without any track listing. It is reminiscent of those sweets you bought as a child in a bag, you never know what you’re gonna get. The band during their interview were keeping their cards very close to their chests about the track-listings and stated that the CD’s may all have different tracks on……who knows!! I was given a special pre-release copy and I can confirm my copy contains covers of songs by Big Country, The Ramones, The Adverts and that’s all I am prepared to say.

The band’s now annual acoustic session at the Hope Fm studio was as usual full of complete madness and mayhem! The band performed a 4 song acoustic, stripped-down set which included Becs Marchant from Salisbury Rock band “Solarbird” on backing vocals, with drummer Mike Sidey playing a Cajon for the 1st time. There are only three exclusive videos below of the session as Rock Regeneration’s Jon forgot to push the record button on the first song, a hammer blow to his head soon fixed this and normal service was resumed for the other three. The band have a long list of gigs in the run-up to Christmas (Listed Below) – get along and seem them while you can and you can pick up your own copy of “Lucky Dip”.
