19th October 2013
Musicians in Bournemouth play their part in the UK’s biggest ever charity music festival.
Local musicians will be performing at Inferno, The Anvil, Sound Circus and The Cottonwood Boutique Hotel as part of Oxjam, the UK’s biggest music festival. The show on 19th October 2013 will be raising money for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty around the world. The event forms part of Oxjam month of music, which runs through the whole of October. Oxjam is a festival with a difference: thousands of fundraising music events are put on by ordinary people – from large-scale festivals to local sponsored busks ñ making it the biggest line-up of any music festival in the UK.
An Oxjam wristband costs only £5 and will be available at the door of each venue and entitles you entry to all venues participating in the takeover. This will get you access to see a cast of hundreds of top local musicians all giving their time up for free to raise money for this very worthy cause. Charlie Northey who is organising/performing at the event, said “We’re really excited to be playing our part in making Bournemouth part of a month-long musical celebration right across the country. Even more importantly, this gig is all about showing that the best in local music can have a global impact too – for example, just £7 could feed a family. So everyone who comes along can have a great night whilst also knowing that they’re helping to change lives around the world too.”
During October, more than 800 venues, 9,000 volunteers, 7,000 musicians, and 150,000 audience members will help make Oxjam bigger and better than ever.
The highlight of the month-long festival will be the Oxjam Takeover, a series of city-wide mini-festivals taking place in 62 locations across the UK, from Shetland to Torquay, on the weekend of 19th and 20th October. During a single weekend, over 2000 musicians will perform to an audience of more than 40,000, all raising money to help Oxfam fight poverty worldwide
Since 2006, more than 45,000 musicians have played to an audience of more than 900,000 people at over 3,500 Oxjam events, raising in excess of £2 million to fight poverty around the world.
