Eternal Endeavour (formerly known as Sanctuary) are a 5 piece hard rock band from Lulworth on the beautiful Isle of Purbeck in Dorset who have just released their debut album ‘Out Of Ashes’ which comes in a very nicely produced digipac packaging with some very eye catching artwork from Ross Thompson, local Poole musician turned artist who performed in bands The Longest Day and now Wasted Generation.
The 5 piece band wear their rock hearts on their sleeves openly stating they are influenced by bands like Alter Bridge, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Iron Maiden and of course Led Zeppelin. The album opens with ‘Road To Nowhere’ which leads with a fast paced duelling twin guitar attack coupled with some nice atmospheric keyboard work, the 2nd tracks guitar loop reminds me of the 80’s classic “Two Tribes” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood now these guys are far too young to remember this band but the resemblance is rather uncanny.
The album continues with more of the same ingredients and has a modern progressive feel to with some potential live anthems such as “Fallen Angel” and “End Of Days” which really hits the spot musically with some really impressive skilful guitar work. The more you listen the more influences you can hear there are bits of Iron Maiden, Metallica and the more up to date Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine giving the CD a nice varied feel. The only gripe is with the vocals Jon is fine with all the low levels but pushing his voice to the higher notes things go a little off in places which is a little disappointing as all of the rest of the ingredients do really hit the spot. This piece of work shows lots of potential and hopefully when they guys are ready to hit local venues these songs will transfer well live.
