‘Harbourtown’ is a 7 track EP from The Midnight Disco Patrol. The Midnight Disco Patrol are a six piece currently unsigned indie-rock band, originally hailing from Weymouth, Dorset, but are now spread across the South of England. With an energetic sound that seems to hark back to the 80’s alternative indie styles.
From the opening energetic ‘West Bay Harbour’ and softer paced ‘See Your Sorrows Fly’, they have created a sound almost akin to that of Squeeze. Although, not usually on my listening lists, they are also reminded me of the simple pop tones of The Housemartins, with echoes of Johnny Marr’s style guitar from the The Smiths, but definitely with a rockier/edgier sound. The only unusual sounding track for me was ‘Hayley’ which had a very raw, rough and ready, sound. Maybe recorded during a different session? They have an individual indie-rock style sound, with a strong 80’s feel for me. However, more surprisingly at times I felt there was an ethereal feel to the lyrics, helped by the guitar, especially on ‘Harbourtown’. With a sound you could easily listen to on a sunny day, sat sitting a cool beer beside the sea on the south coast.

Last year they played shows towards the end of the year (one with Mark Morriss from The Bluetones at Dirty South, London, and the other supporting The Pogues at their Xmas after show party at Brixton Jamm). The EP was released September last year, and is available for a listen on their MySpace page, as well as a couple of up-and-coming gigs.
