For those of you who aren’t aware of the Canadian music scene, Ten Second Epic is a band from Edmonton who have breached the boundaries of pop rock music time and time again, and shared the stage with the likes of You Me At Six, Kids In Glass Houses, Hedley and A Day To Remember.
After a five year stint as a band since releasing their debut album ‘Count Yourself In’, they have released two more albums which explore elements of pop punk, pop rock and more alternative styles with grit and passion injected into their sound. After the success for their sophomore album “Hometown” which exhibited a more pop punk fueled flavour to their sound, the band took a different route for their third album, “Better Off” which reiterates the band’s fusion of alternative and pop music, but with a greater sense of their rock-focused roots, helping them receive praise from the likes of Kerrang and Rock Sound magazine recently. The lead single, “Young Classics” shows more than enough evidence for this observation, raising the roof off any expectations with its riff-driven hook and surprisingly aggressive vocals.
I saw Ten Second Epic when they played a free show at iBar in 2012, off the back of a controversial incident which forced them to leave a UK tour with Twenty Twenty. The show was announced only a few days before its intended date, but still around twenty people turned up to what I can only describe as the most surprising show I have ever witnessed. I went along as I wanted something to do that evening, but after their set, I couldn’t quite believe how incredible this band was, and especially with recent events likely to affect their morale. Since then, I have admired the bands relentless hard work which has seen them play tours across the globe and boosting their ever increasing fan base. Two years later, and I can finally see them in action again.
The band will embark on a string of UK dates which spread across February and March, with more dates set to be announced according to the band’s Facebook page. I couldn’t advise you enough to see this band, trust me; you won’t go home disappointed.
