The Levellers present “Levelling The Land Live The 20th Anniversary Tour” – December 2011
Featuring special guests: DREADZONE and BACK TO THE PLANET
Brixton, Sheffield and Leicester Academy Xmas shows are last chance to see the era-defining album performed in its entirety, followed by an extended encore from the Levellers extensive back catalogue.
Featuring the hit singles One Way, 15 Years and Far From Home plus The Game, Liberty Song, Sell Out, Another Man’s Cause, Riverflow, Boatman, and the incendiary Battle Of The Beanfield.
Due to overwhelming demand, Levellers have announced the final 3 dates in December of their massively popular Levelling The Land 20th Anniversary tour, which will now visit Leicester and Sheffield alongside returning for a second gig at London’s Brixton Academy.
With all 15 shows selling out on the first leg of the tour back in March, these dates will be the last chance to see the band perform their era-defining album ‘Levelling The Land’ in its entirety to mark the 20th anniversary of its original release. It will be followed by an extended encore of live favourites and B-sides from the Levellers extensive back catalogue.
Very special guests Dreadzone and Back To The Planet will join Levellers on all 3 shows.
Levellers have been called a lot of conflicting of things over their 23-year history. However, the closest thing to a consensus surrounding the seminal British folk-punk band is that their platinum-selling 1991 album Levelling The Land is an absolute classic. In one fell swoop it propelled a group of disenfranchised misfits from playing pubs in Brighton to headlining Glastonbury Festival, and in the process becoming ‘The most popular band in Britain’ (NME).
Dreadzone, the fervently followed British institution and original pioneers of UK bass culture, are releasing ‘The Best Of Dreadzone – The Good The Bad And The Dread’ – a compendium of their excellent musical story so far – on 09 May. The all-killer-no-filler 16 track ‘Best Of’ collates the many highlights of ‘the Zone’s’ output to date. Still going strong after seventeen years, Dreadzone have carved a large niche and cult following. Hit records, critical acclaim and a huge, devoted fan base are theirs, due in part to their utterly storming live shows.
Anarcho-punk band Back To The Planet formed while squatting together in Peckham, south east London in 1989, and attracted a dedicated following throughout the early nineties playing many of the free festivals including the Deptford Urban Free Festival and the infamous Castlemorton Common Festival in 1992.. With a long-shared Levellers association going all the way back to the Peckham Dole House days, the band reformed in 2006 but have only played a handful of festivals since then.
