Single: “She’s Trouble” by Sereniform
February 16, 2024
South Coast band “Sereniform” who only formed last year, have just released their debut single “She’s Trouble”. They have hit the ground running with everything already in place to help promote themselves. Their initial preparation is a credit to them, there is an extensive website telling you everything you could ever need to know about the band.
There is also a professionally shot, accompanying music video with large scale production; with two locations and lots of talented actors. There is a huge amount crammed into just 4 minutes of screen time. It is a bright, cinematic piece of storytelling that will keep you entertained from the first second to the last.
The video tells the unusual story of a female priest who has a passion for exotic dancing and puts a slightly different spin on the song. The video was recorded on location in Bournemouth, and you may recognise the Bear Cave basement in Lansdowne Road as the backdrop for much of the recording. The track’s audio was recorded at Hangover Hill Studios in Wimborne, with help and direction from the multi-talented all rounder Matt Black who breathed life into the song, working with the band’s ideas.
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Jay honestly tells us that she has struggled most of her life with mental health conditions and addiction. Any time she progressed in life; university, jobs, music career etc; she would have an episode and must pick up the pieces time and time again, which was soul destroying. After more than a decade of battling addiction in some form or another, she cut ties with negativity: people, substances, environments and left it all behind. November 1st, 2021 was the day Jay stopped everything (including cigarettes) and is still sober today.
Jay explains “it took a few years of healing, mentally and physically. But now, finally I’m screaming on sax and belting my heart out again. It feels so good. So please bear witness to the songs that tell the stories of my life. It’s my therapy, my release. I’m passionate about this project and I’m doing it with the best people, my friends.”
The fun, light-hearted track has a contemporary sound and features slightly controversial lyrics, that may not be obvious without a closer inspection. It features a host of influences and the band have brought these together to create a unique-sounding Pop song that has ballad-style characteristics.
The four experienced musicians each bring their own unique skills to the track, and we are treated to some clever instrumentation; notably the melodic saxophone and stirring guitar solo. Jay’s vocals are the proverbial cherry on the top with some impressive harmonies that have been nicely layered. These guys show plenty of scope for the future and by the amount of effort that they have put in on this release alone, you can be sure that they mean business.
