Single: “Irrelevant, Benevolent” by Nory-J
July 28, 2023
South Coast Based singer/songwriter Nory-J is the Indie/Dream-Pop pseudonym of British musician Jack Spooner, who releases his next single on 25th August; The windows down, end of Summer vibe “Irrelevant, Benevolent”. The track is the British Indie/Pop artist’s perspective on an unstable romance fed to a biased third party. The song acts as an acceptance of the storm that often follows after a messy break-up. The release shows the continued exploration from the artist into more Bedroom Pop / LoFi directions. It follows the latest Nory-J era of “Secrecy And I”, “Nightlife” and more recently “Future Days” which gained over 35,000 streams and brought 17,000 new listeners to his music, creating well deserved global attention.
Without following any particular trends of styles the track features a host of influences, without sounding like any artist in particular. Jack’s soothing vocal is set over a menagerie of sounds with synths; electronic rhythms, keys and understated guitars; coupled together with some choice sampling. A real original sound that shows the artist is not afraid to push boundaries and experiment with all the skills that have been gifted to him and the musicians he chooses to surround himself with. He combines the musical elements from the depths of 90’s Shoegaze; Indie/Pop and elements of modern Jazz, and has gained inspiration from acts like Gus Dapperton, Easy Life and The 1975. These have helped him create a quintessentially distinctive British soundscape like no other.
