Bursting out of Wakefield come The Gallery after a one year hiatus, honing their skills and unleashing this belter of a single upon us. Joe’s chiming guitars open this haunting yet edgy song, but that guitar subtlety is brief as it explodes into life. An angry and direct vocal then takes over, notably in the chorus. Swirling guitar lines abound with equally hard-hitting drums and a vocal bellowed out with spite and guile. I’m picking up hints of Joy Division but this is quite a unique statement track. There’s something rather wonderful in a song that doesn’t appear to mention the title in the lyrics. It makes you just keep re-listening, which is exactly the effect it had on me! Genre-wise it’s Post/Punk-inspired with an Indie harshness, sitting comfortably in both camps. The sharp ending is simply great and leaves you just begging for more.
The accompanying video looks like four young lads; messing with sounds in the studio, before creating this monster of a track. Matt (vocals) has the swagger of an early Rotten, coupled with the moves and energy of Frank Carter. Ben (drums) meanwhile has an almost effortless style. Sam (bass) and Joe (guitars) are no less energetic – Joe is chief shapeshifter while Sam at times is head down in concentration. Their attire is casual at best, however their sound is anything but.
