One of Bournemouth’s best-loved bands is four-piece Pop/Funk survivors Soulhole. The band; fronted by the very talented all-rounder Jordan Digby, have gone through some difficult times with line-up changes and the inevitable relocation for education. The unpreventable issues have never stopped the bands’ desire to make music and perform. The band released their debut album “Abazar” back in 2014, though listening back at it you can see how far the band have come along since then. They are first and foremost a live band and their constant drive was rewarded recently when they won O’Neils “Sound of Summer” competition, beating some of the Country’s top bands to win the £6000 prize.
The New Year sees Soulhole finally recording and releasing new material, they have been busy at work in drummer Nathan’s home studio putting down some tracks. The first of these is “Tangled Up With You”, a tune where the band seem to really come of age. They have taken things up a notch with Jordan’s smouldering vocals; coupled with Mathew’s first class keyboards which really supply the backbone of this song, especially the musical Jewellery box piece which is just beautifully creative. The understated guitars along with some top class percussion make this a really top tune, possibly one of the best to come from Soulhole.
The second tune comes back to the more familiar funky Soulhole that we have known in the past. It starts off with the sounds of a bottle top being prized from a much-needed bottle of beer, and then a satisfying swig is taken. This tune features lots of funky basslines coupled with more of Mathew’s Doors-esque keys and some spot on drumming from Nathan. These two tunes are taken from a forthcoming EP that the band are due to release later this year with hopefully more live dates to be announced soon.
