The Anvil
Blind River has a shit ton of grooves and they continued to unleash all of them on the Anvil crowd. Wave after wave of pummelling riffs furiously battered the enthusiastic crowd. The Guildford mob have a very distinctive stage presence simultaneously acting like it’s all just a bit of fun but very serious about their music and making sure everyone has a great time. The high-energy stage antics went hand in hand with the rock and roll licks and I’m sure they garnered a few new fans in Bournemouth.
Tonight’s host’s local lads, Dead Lettuce delivered a very accomplished set. Their unique stoner rock, filling every inch of the Anvil basement. Skilfully blending the desert melodies of Kyuss with Sabbath inspired riffs and producing their own take on the genre. They have gotten consistently better each time I’ve seen them and really sounded tremendous on the night. Awesome.
London outfit Limb are touring their new album and The Anvil was the venue for the official release of “Saboteurs Of The Sun”. The new tracks have a notably different feel to them from their previous releases but show that foursome are broadening their horizons and evolving their sound by incorporating progressive elements into their music. Kicking off the show with three tracks from the new opus Limb proceeded to show what a tight outfit they are live, veering from Doom to Fuzz to Stoner and even a Johnny Cash cover thrown in for good measure. Frontman Rob Hoey was very natural on stage and his strong vocal delivery complemented the solid riffs and groovy rhythms blasting out. Set highlight for me was the awesome Love Has No Name.
