The Manatees

Hampshire 4-piece Indie outfit The Mantatees have been impressing local audiences with their live performances at a host of various venues, including a notable gig at the O2 Academy in Islington last November. The young band have just released their debut four track EP entitled “Avoiding Glances”, which was recorded at The Melody Bunker in Portsmouth and produced by Dave Loughran.

The band’s lyrical content is mainly taken from social observations such as awkward situations with relationships, the joy of youthful drinking and of course nights out on the town. They take these typical everyday subjects that virtually everyone can relate and turn them into catchy guitar-led tunes with infectious lyrics. There are obvious influences from the likes of Jamie T and the Artic Monkeys, but these guys are already on their way of finding their own sound.

The Manatees

There is something about them that makes you want to sit up and listen. They don’t come access as over confident or arrogant like some young bands. Their live performances are great fun and they seem quietly confident with their more than adequate talent. The guys have already picked up notice from “BBC Introducing”, and on the quality of this debut release I expect so see a lot more of The Manatees in the near future.
