Hope Fm Studio, Bournemouth
Hampshire folk/indie trio Thinker have just released the follow up to their debut album “Call to Arms”. The new album was recorded in a number of places including a recording studio in Portsmouth and also frontman Charlie’s Kitchen. The album features a number of tried and tested tracks that have been the staple of the bands live set for quite a while now. The band have a simple but effective set-up that includes Stu on electric bass, Spud on Fiddle and Charlie on acoustic guitars. The album for a limited time only comes with a 8 track bonus CD of live cuts and rarities if purchased directly from the band.
The sound is a driven Folk sound that is danceable and listenable in equal measures. It takes some influence from established bands like the Levellers and 3 Daft Monkeys who the band have had the privilege of supporting on a number of occasions. The album has a really polished professional feel and lots of really infectious numbers to get your feet tapping. The band are comfortable playing virtually anywhere, however they are more at home performing at many of the local summer festivals.
The band joined myself and Tim Heywood in the Hope Fm studio for an interview and acoustic session. They had a bet to see how many times that Charlie could mention the band’s website. I think it got mentioned about 7 times and I think he’s lost his bet. The conversation was very lively and random with all three members engaging really well. The trio were thrown in at the deep end with a request for a random unrehearsed cover of “It Must Be Love”, made famous by Madness. The exclusive videos of the live session can be seen below.
