The Swedish road dogs in Bonafide are back with Denim Devils, their fifth studio album, and follow-up to 2013’s critically acclaimed Bombo. The new album will be released on the 2nd of February 2015 and paves the way for a spring and summer on the road in Europe.
Bonafide was formed by singer and guitarist Pontus Snibb in Malm in the south of Sweden in 2006, and released the eponymous debut album the following year. This was followed by festivals and other major gigs, opening for bands such as Deep Purple, Europe, Status Quo, Y&T and The Quireboys. The band has kept touring hard and releasing quality albums ever since, and have since the release of Bombo done over a 100 gigs and festivals, toured the UK, Spain, Germany, their native Sweden and most other corners of Europe.
Denim Devils features twelve newly written songs, penned by main man Pontus Snibb. This time there’s a broader sonic spectrum and a more lively production. The album was recorded, just like Bombo, in bassist Martin Ekelund’s own studio Lemon Recordings in Klippan, Sweden.
“This record has a tougher live vibe and sound than the previous one, as it was recorded almost live in the studio. We wanted to get as close to a live show as possible, to capture that magic that happens on stage when everything’s coming together”, Pontus says.
Early November, the first single Hold Down the Fort was released as a digital EP and first taster of what’s to come (and featuring two non-album bonus tracks).
“The single Hold Down The Fort is a straight ahead rocker about always sticking up for someone to a 100%, never letting them down.”
One Kiss is another stand out track, with its’ catchy chorus that sticks in your mind from the first listen – it will be released as the second single this spring, with an accompanying video.
“I recall thinking about Foo Fighters meets Weezer when I wrote that song last spring.” A few other key songs off the album, that shows the variety in Pontus’ songwriting, are Get a Grip with it’s Zeppelin-esque sound and the mellow Missing You.
Bonafide will be back on the road in February 2015 with a full European and UK tour.
