Southern Brotherhood

Southern Brotherhood started out life as an acoustic two-piece featuring reunited friends Andy De Rosa and Jeff Kirkham. After recording an album together at home called “Magic Carpet Ride” and an EP called “Take Me Back Home”, they decided to step things up and recruit a rhythm section.

After advertising for additional personnel they had various auditions, with Chris Matthews (Bass guitar) and Steve Butterworth (Drums) getting the job to turn this duo into a band. The four guys soon bonded and despite all their very different musical backgrounds, they had a firm idea how they wanted to sound. There are strong influences from bands like the Rolling Stones, Black Crowes and Neil Young so rehearsing commenced with ideas fixed on a Rock and Blues sound.

With help from the locally based Red Dragon Records in Wimborne the band went into Basement Studios and over just a weekend recorded their three track EP “The Basement Sessions”. The EP features a diverse set of songs, all with a very different style.

The live gigs started to come thick and fast with their new, all electric set-up; with a few local festival appearances including the “Gunstone Gathering”, as well as a very respectable fourth place in the Best Of Bournemouth Battle Of The Bands competition.

The band came into the Hope FM studio for an acoustic session and an interview broadcast to a host of listeners across the internet and on 90.1 FM across the Bournemouth area. They performed all three songs “Baby Girl”, “Right Back Where We Started” and the beautiful “Serenade” from their EP. They really impressed myself and Tim Heywood with some really great slide guitar from Andy.

The four piece band have only been together since February 2014 and they continue to grow more confident with each gig. Keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for news of future gigs.
