The Sabres

Bournemouth Power/Rock trio The Sabres have been performing to local audiences since early 2011. The band was formed after the demise of previous outfit “Hoffman Sloth” where Richie Adams and Martin Ramsey where joined by Mother Ukers member Nacho Jase on bass guitar. Richie and Martin were very keen to continue their musical journey recruiting Gareth Davies on bass and proceeded to record their debut album “Escaping Extinction” which contained some really great guitar-led tracks such as “Full Moon” and “CCTV”. After a few years together the bright lights of London called to Gareth and he left to follow a different path in musical education. Waiting in the wings patiently was Martin’s brother Paul, who soon filled Gareth’s very large shoes to complete the sibling rhythm section.

The Sabres then set about recording the follow up to “Escaping Extinction”, where a weekend recording session at a local Bournemouth studio resulted in eight tracks being laid down; which turned into the second album “Human”. The band are extremely proud of what they have created, an album full of deliciously exciting guitar work, coupled with some really solid well driven work from the brothers in the all new rhythm section. A new fresh approach and a newly found momentum has driven the trio to create this body of work. The band’s direction comes generally from the world of Rock with acts like Queen’s Of The Stone Age, The Wildhearts and The Offspring being noted down as early influences. The album “Humans” was released on the 1st May 2014 with new songs such as the epic “10,000 Enemies”, “Broken Radio” and title track “Humans”; all showing a nice progression from the previous material.

The band came along to the Hope FM studio with a rather stripped down semi-acoustic set-up from what they would normally produce live. This was no problem for them as the are equally comfortable with both set-ups, as the have performed some of their songs many times at open mic nights in the past. Myself and Tim were treated to a three song set which included an excellent cover of “I Want You Bad” by one of my favourite bands The Offspring.

Throughout the rest of 2014 the band are looking to put in place many more live gigs, broadening their horizons to new venues. There are also plans for an adventurous project to create some short films, to go together with all the songs on the “Humans” album.

Keep your eyes posted on the band’s website or Facebook page for details of any new live adventures. The exclusive videos of the band’s performances in the Hope FM studio can all be seen below:
