Kaia Vieira/Tim Crook
June 14, 2014White Hart Pub, Wimborne Folk Festival
In April of this year Kaia Vieria along with her partner Jordan Digby of local band Soulhole performed a beautiful track called “You Lost Me” on local radio. The track is by an artist by the name of Dusty Stray (aka Jonathan Brown) who Kaia and Jordan had admired for a while. In maybe a twist of fate or a strange coincidence, Jonathan was due to perform a set before Kaia at the White Hart in Wimborne as part of the town’s annual folk festival. He was more than aware of the duo’s radio performance and invited Kaia up on stage with him to perform that very track. The track of course was performed really well with the crowd giving them a huge round of applause at it’s conclusion, with most unaware of the very significance of it.
Kaia Vieria is a young rising star of the Bournemouth music scene. With her effortlessly delivered brilliant vocal range and her shy nature, she is gaining a following from every corner of her home county and beyond. The singer/songwriter is still yet to cut her first EP or Album, but is still in great demand around the local venues of her home town. Working together with Jordan at a host of open mic nights Kaia has really excelled in her guitar skills and vocal delivery so much within the past year. The open mic scene seems to have opened her up to many of the skills that a regular performing musician needs. As a contestant in the recent Bournemouth Unplugged music first heats, Kaia has been hotly tipped to make her way to the final.
This afternoon she is not even billed to be performing here, but a last minute cancellation gives her the chance to show off her considerable talent to the Wimborne crowd. Despite the last minute billing word seems to have got around via the magic of social media, as Kaia has plenty of loyal fans in front of her looking forward to today’s performance. Along with drummer Tim Crook she delivers a set full of highlights that includes a good mix of originals and carefully selected cover versions of songs including, “I Put A Spell On You” and Ed Sheernan’s “Wayfaring Stranger”. This is not the usual acoustic performance as with the lightly played; well delivered drumming, harmonica and a loop pedal are used to keep things interesting. The original songs come in the form of “The Fool” and the final number; a bright, Funky new Summery song called “Down To Dusk” which gets many of the audience up dancing. Kaia is a truly remarkable young women who has a voice of real quality that makes her stand out from the crowd and I am positive that it will eventually lead to her fame and fortune.
