EP: “Acquiesce To Violence” by Digits
January 29, 2014North-Eastern based Digits have been in existence since 2011. Formed out of the ashes of defunct band “Cut Glass Accent”, they describe themselves as “alternative & post-hardcore rock”.
As I listen to the opening track, “Acquiesce”, my ears are assaulted by a full-on barrage of guitar and frontman Chris’s vocals range from shouty (which he does quite well) to quite pleasant and back again. I’m not sure if alternative is the right genre, but I don’t like pigeon-holing bands anyway; if I like it, I listen to it.
Second track “Golden” features twice, one is a radio version. It’s a big track, with lots of guitar work and is easy to listen to, with some nice vocal harmonies. I actually quite like it and no doubt it will be going round my head for a day or two. There are some interesting time signature changes on “Violence” and “Livers”, but overall each song kind of romps along in its own way, although “Visceral” is the sort of track you can see being popular on a club dance floor, having the potential for some serious jumping around to be done.
Digits are tight as a band; solid drums, guitars and bass all mesh together and I can’t fault the standard of playing on this record. Sometimes the main vocals are a little overstretched, but I think it adds to the overall sound of the songs and what they are trying to do. They are signed to Pulse Music Productions so obviously they’re doing something right!
You can buy “Acquiesce to Violence” on Amazon and iTunes and there are three gigs coming up in March and April, all of them up north – details are on their website. You could do a lot worse than go along and see them; make up your own mind about what genre they fit in to!
