EP: “Falling” By Shona Lowe
September 28, 2013Shona Lowe is a young lady from Christchurch who is drawing plenty of attention to herself with a string of successful live performances, along with her four track debut EP “Switch”.
This is not an X factor style story as Shona has decided to do things the proper way with hard work and her own pure talent. It is hard to believe when you meet Shona that such a voice can come from her. She is very humble and quite shy but when she gets on stage, a bit of magic happens as well as some special chemistry with her band members. The Ep is four original songs giving the listener a small taster of what this local young lady can achieve.
The EP kicks off with “Switch” which has simple instrumentation; acoustic guitars, bass and a Cajon which are pleasant enough, but it’s Shona’s strong soulful voice that stands out; she sings with a passion, along with a delivery like no other. The voice continues to impress on both “I know” and “Falling”, both showing some lovely harmonising with some great heartfelt, well written lyrics. “You Said” includes some notable Spainish style guitar work with some excellently consistent percussion and this time the vocals arrive with some magnificent smouldering charm.
All in all a fantastically confident and well recorded debut EP that is rumoured to be followed by a full length album. Shona Lowe has arrived in some style with a little help from friends. Keep a very close eye on her, you never know what sort of journey that her music will take her on.
