Busting out of Aberdare in South Wales, Reaper In Sicily are looking to push the boundaries of the current screamo scene right to the edge.
I must admit that this isn’t my usual listening but these guys have come up with a top-notch debut. Chock-a-block full of catchy melodies and mosh-pit anthems.
Having been voted Kerrang magazines best unsigned live act in 2009, they had to overcome adversity when guitarist Matthew Jenkins was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 and they were forced to take a break whilst he recovered. They released two EPs (Eden and Chapters) and toured the ass off ’em, supporting Kids In Glass Houses, The Subways, Max Raptor, Attack! Attack! and Mallory Knox to name a few.
In this debut they have come up with an absolute cracker. Fast paced and loaded with soon to be live favourites, Islands is one hell of a catchy motherfucker! Standout tracks for me are “50”, “Boys Will Be Boys”, the excellently named “Chuck Norris Got A Chainsaw”, title track “Islands”, “Sunnydale Sucks” and the albums single “Horizon”. Expect good things from this young band!
