Palms and Pelicans

Palms and Pelicans are a four piece band from a place called Hordle in the New Forest in Hampshire, they have just released their debut four track EP “Float”.

The band worked with top producer Nathan Thomas who worked with Keane on their “Hope and Fears” album. Since forming in spring 2012, the band’s songs have received plenty of radio airplay on lots of local stations as well as being aired by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 music. The EP is a kicks of with the truly beautiful “Cut The Sky” which brings together Jack Lawrence’s unique zestful rich vocal style with the sweet gifted harmonies of Mattea combined with a retrospective guitar sound reminiscent of bands from the 90’s like Lush, Echobelly or Slowdive.

The next track “Float” continues with a very prominent intro reminding me a little of being on a French railway station platform. The song continues with more of Mattea’s delightful vocals that impresses with more of the shoegaze guitar style with a modern original twist.

The band show slightly different directions and styles with the next two tracks proving there is plenty of diversity within their creation process. This debut is something quite special and shows a band in their early stages with a very fresh radio friendly sound that potentially could to appeal to a mass market. The EP is available to download from the band’s bandcamp website here, and keep a close eye on their Facebook page for information on up coming gigs.
