March 5, 2012Bournemouth Folk Festival 2012, Bournemouth International Centre, 23rd & 24th March 2012
Bournemouth Folk Festival has more intimate setting for 2012 than last year. They are using lovely parts of the BIC which face on to the seafront: the Tregonwell Hall and an adjoining concert lounge with bar. Playing the BIC, Bournemouth the Folk Festival returns this month celebrating the brilliant and wide-ranging folk music of this country, running from Friday 23rd March to Saturday 24th.
The festival line-up for 2012 includes Martyn Joseph, Martha Tilston (and her full band The Woods), Grupo Lokito (infectious Congolese dance rhythms), Anglo-Spanish band The Urban Folk Quartet, The Moulettes, Australian songstress Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo, Cutashine ceilidh band, Korasong Radio, Megan Henwood, Fearne, Alex Roberts, Jigfoot, Mike Dawes and Amy Turk and many more.
Charismatic songwriter MARTYN JOSEPH and BBC Folk Musician of the Year ANDY CUTTING give concerts and workshops. These are on the Saturday afternoon along with EMILY BARKERís Red Clay Halo and ex-Twisted Folk star MARTHA TILSTON with six piece band.
Anglo-Spanish celts The URBAN FOLK QUARTET headline the Friday night concert with fiddler Paloma Trigas playing jigs and muineiras after Jeremy Avis’s KORASONG RADIO. Also on main stage Friday night are indie-folk FEARNE and folk-blues guitarist ALEX ROBERTS.
The festival’s final session is on Saturday night with three bands: hoedown-ceilidh with CUT-A-SHINE and caller, impelling rhythms from cello-led prog-folkers The MOULETTES, and to close, Anglo-Congolese soukous and salsa band GRUPO LOKITO.
