Single: “Valentine” by Constellation

“Valentine” is the second single release from possibly Bournemouth’s best up and coming band right now, Constellation. It is clearly a step up from debut single “The Flower Song” which achieved the dizzy heights of number 40 on the official download chart-no pressure then! This latest release shows a real maturity in the bands development and where this reviewer thought on first listen it was simply “ok”, “Valentine” has proved to be a real grower.

The intro has a clever little sequence before singer Ali’s vocal kicks in with some clearly heartfelt lyrics in the shape of love and relationships. The sound is unapologetically indie throughout and the sequence returns in the middle 8. The “chiming” guitar sound is confident also while Marks drums come to the fore at the end. Valentine is not the powerhouse of other songs like “Waster” but their trajectory is clearly going upwards. For the Princely sum of 79p download this single and like me,let it grow on you!
