The Frequency

On a cold Sunday night in Christchurch The Thomas Tripp is packed to the rafters. After missing a couple of local acoustic acts I head for the front to catch my (2nd) favourite local band. Having witnessed/promoted The Frequency almost from their early beginnings I’ve come to see if they cut it in the acoustic arena. I needn’t have worried-on this performance the futures bright. They open with “Sticky Little Finger” and “Run With You” before they dedicate their “guilty pleasure” cover just for me with the Stereophonics “Dakota”.

This may seem too obvious with a voice like Austin’s but they nail it which isn’t a surprise. A couple of new tracks are debuted tonight;the impressive “You Don’t Have To Know” and “Steal A Phrase” which can also be heard on the Rock Regeneration’s exclusive interview and session with the band. Live (and acoustic) favourite “The Lighthouse” gets the usual treatment while a few more covers are slipped into the set to balance thing up. They make a decent fist of “Stuck in the Middle With You” before morphing into their trademark “Only Fools ‘n Horses” singalong. The crowd love it and promptly join in with loads of joyous enthusiasm. A brief break then a one song encore with Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May”. A short but sweet acoustic set by one of the Dorset’s finest live acts, I’m expecting more great things from these guys in 2012.
