The Brook Southampton

Blackfoot

I got to say I was really looking forward to this show, Blackfoot are one of my favourite bands and I would go out of my way to catch ‘em live. With no support band in tow the Brook was treated to an intimate performance by one of Southern Rock’s premier live acts.

Kicking off the proceedings with the classic track Good Morning, ex Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Mike Estes and Randy Peak (38 Special & The Marshal Tucker band) get the dual guitars roaring and blend seamlessly into their cover of Frees’ Wishing Well. Two more covers follow with Bass and Drum solos from Greg T Walker and Kurt Pietro respectively, but the audience is still a little cool. The evening needs a little more original Blackfoot material and that comes in the form of the excellent Fox Chase, Left Turn on a Red Light and the outstanding Dry County.

With the crowd well and truly warmed up, we get a bit of blues in the form of Muddy Waters “Rollin’ and Tumblin’”, then three of the best from Blackfoot’s back catalogue Fly Away, Train Train and a blistering version of their own “Freebird” the epic Highway Song.

Finishing off with Robert Johnson cover Crossroads, the band retires for beers and a meet and greet with the punters.

Will I see ‘em again when they come back to Southampton…HELL YEAH! And so should you!
