West London’s cult alt-indie four piece Tellison release their new single ‘Edith’ on 2nd October through Naim Edge Records, the second from this summer’s much loved new, Peter Miles (The King Blues, Frank Turner, We Are The Ocean) produced album ‘The Wages Of Fear’.
‘Edith’ is the quintessence of Tellison’s charming capability to candidly express contemporary anguish through classic inspirations. Front man and guitarist Stephen Davidson explains the meaning behind the new single; “Edith Wharton writes a mean story. Her writing, though not particularly fashionable today, earned her a Pulitzer prize in 1921 and the deep devotion of countless readers the world over. In other words she knows where it’s at. The Pulitzer was awarded to her novel “The Age Of Innocence”. I read that book in a small attic room in Cambridge in 2008 and immediately afterwards wrote a song. The song’s title namechecks Edith herself whilst its lyrics reference a few of her literary inventions. There’s also some stuff about real life not being as compelling, powerful, ordered, dramatic or satisfying as fiction (particularly hers) in there too.”
Accompanying the digital single release of ‘Edith’ will be a limited edition (numbered) 7” vinyl, complete with b side from Manchester’s TCTS, the official SoundCloud Remix Competition winner, as judged by Tellison themselves.
Tellison’s new album ‘The Wages Of Fear’, despite a ball-busting piracy leak ahead of its June release, has rapidly forged new ground for one of Britain’s most-loved underground alt-indie phenomena. It is only getting busier for Tellison as they release their first US single ‘Freud Links The Teeth And The Heart’ through Family Records this Autumn and will tour Europe to promote their album release before the year is out.
The album was recorded last summer in a Scottish mansion once owned by Glenmorangie himself, fueled by Bruce Springsteen and, inevitably, whiskey. It is also the name of a French film from 1953 directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot in which the desperate inhabitants of a dead-end South American town are hired by a manipulative and dishonest oil company to complete a near suicidal task in the vain hope of earning their passage out of a situation full of horror because it presents no opportunities and no chance of redemption.
Live wise, over the last 2 years the band have covered the length and breadth of the UK building up a rabid fan-base, touring extensively as a headline act, along the way playing shows and joining tours with the likes of Good Shoes, I Was A Cub Scout, Walter Shriefels, Gallows, Emmy The Great, Mumford and Sons, Noah & the Whale, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Frank Turner, Biffy Clyro, Bombay Bicycle Club, Sam Sparro, Johnny Foreigner, Esser, Tubelord, Rolo Tomassi and MC RUT.
After much demand, Tellison also follow up the recent June ‘The Wages Of Fear’ tour with further dates throughout October. The band will be taking their (tragically leaking) van across the UK once more and visit the more ‘out of the way’ venues this Country has to offer. Expect histrionics, guitar throwing and thousand yard stares. Expect sweat, blood, smiles and spit. Expect classic British indie rock, people like you, inexplicably on a stage, doing their god-damned best. Tour dates are as follows:
