Discos Out (Murders In)

Chaplins, Cellar Bar, Boscombe

I think I must seek help, I am enjoying my live music so much these days I am trying to squeeze two gigs into one night, to those of you that think it is not possible think again. I went to see Glasvegas at the O2 Academy in Boscombe who finished their set at around 10:30pm, a quick trip over the road to Chaplins, Cellar Bar where we find that Discos Out (Murders In) have just started the first of their two very energetic sets.

The place is packed and the band have just about squeezed on to the small stage, tonight they are a 7 piece with the drummer in a small alcove and bass player Lee forced to perform in a cupboard under the stairs not ideal, but the band show great adaptability. The band have just released the new 4 track EP ‘The Slightly Less Basic But Not Quite Advanced Principles of Disco’s Out (Murder’s In)’ after launched a EP naming competition with their fans, the new name came in contrast to their album name of ‘The Basic Principle’s Of………….Disco’s Out (Murder’s In)’ The band leave the stage for a well earned drink and a rest after the 1st set only to return 15 minutes later to step up the pace even further.

The bands four piece brass section made up of Martin (Trombone/Trumpet), Lyndsey (Sax), Edmund (Trumpet) and Imogen (Trumpet) are the heart of the band s sound which gives all their songs such energetic feel, you cannot listen to their music without dancing.

An award must go to trumpet player Imogen who I have seen playing in a least half a dozen bands in the last few weeks, I don’t know where she finds the time or energy, respect goes out to her for keeping Bournemouth music scene alive almost single handedly. The band continue with storming versions of their classic numbers ‘Stuck in the Middle’ and ‘Blow My Mind’ which certainly keep the crowds energy levels up and their voices singing out aloud.

The band try to leave the stage and the crowd goes wild demanding more, however exhausted lead singer Steve Perry confesses we don’t know any more songs, the crowd launch in to their own version of ‘Stuck in The Middle’ and the band join in making playing the requested song for a second time much to the delight of the crowd. It is approaching 1am and at my age I should have been in bed hours ago, my ear are ringing as my head hits the pillow after a very enjoyable evening.
