Western Sand
April 16, 2011Chaplins Cellar bar, Boscombe, Bournemouth
Hell yeah, I’d been looking forward to seeing these guys play an extended show and I was lucky enough to have been invited to the launch of their debut album ‘Truckload Of Trouble’ at the Cellar Bar in Boscombe.
For those who haven’t seen Western Sand, they are five lads that specialise in blasting out 70’s tinged classic rock with a Southern slant a la Black Stone Cherry.
Opening with ‘Better Days’ they are immediately on the attack and by the time ‘Coming For You’ ends we know that this is going to be good. Guitarists Tyler Hains and Jimmy Bradshaw blast out riff after riff and take turns on the lead guitar duties flattening the audience with stinging razor sharp solos.
Backing them up with a solid rhythm section are Nathen J.Kay and Findley Hotchkiss on bass who keeps the beat tight and Nathens pile-driving drumming propelling the whole concert along like an out of control freight train.
Mixing the set up with original songs from the aforementioned debut and classics from the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, The Black Crowes, The Almighty and ZZ Top made for a full on rock ‘n’ roll show from an excellent young band! Set highlight for me the outstanding ‘Back On The Road Again’
Definitely on the ‘one to watch out for’ list!
