Over the past week or so I have been listening to “Three Dead at Sundown” the second album by the band by Gecko, on Skullfire Records, and I have to say I found it very refreshing to listen to some good old hard rock, with a blues influence. Don’t get me wrong, they are not dated in anyway!

Formed in 2003, and hailing from Southampton, the Gecko name and sound was established in 2008, making a name for themsleves playing bigger gigs. Not to mention that Russ Diapper, Lead vocals & drums, having his own IMDB entry!

From the intro track laced with heavy blues guitar riffs, fading into ‘Back on the Road Again’, the album has pulsing insistence that keeps you hooked. With some tracks, like ‘Mad Dog’, having a Southern sleazy twang, reminding me of The Four Horsemen (Wiki entry). The album closes with ‘Tornado’, which has a softer, and more laidback sound to it, and ideal close to a strong well produced album.

Their website describes their sound as “Smokin’ Licks, Thumping Drums, and Pulsing Bass” – they aren’t lying.

It’s been a while since I have listened to this style of music, and I feel a search through the CD Collection coming on.

They also have a live album and DVD due for release in the near future.

Gecko are;

Lead Vocals/Drums – Russ Diapper
Lead Guitar – Stef Richfield
Bass – Rich Brewer
