Inferno, Bournemouth

A busy Saturday night in February with Dave McPherson of rock band InMe with a packed line up of acoustic support at the Inferno bar in Bournemouth which is situated right next to the Old Fire Station in Holdenhurst Road. Dave is on the road promoting his debut solo album ‘The Hardship Diaries’ which is released by the pledge music project http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/davemcpherson. This is where both the artist and a charity benefits from fans pledging money for various packages of exclusives items from the artist.

The evening got off to a start with Karl Hayman of local Bournemouth band ‘Amity Road’. Karl sat on a lone bar stool at the back of the venue with all eyes on him from all over the busy venue. It is not always easy going on 1st, but he performed with confidence impressing with numbers such as ‘Angel’ and a great cover of Rhianna’s ‘Umbrella’ with lots of interesting improvisation with the lyrics.

Kimari Raven started boldly with a version of the Moody Blues classic ‘Nights In White Satin’, sadly the small P.A. was struggling to project her voice over the noise of the large crowd, she followed bravely with some of her own compositions ‘Monster’ and ‘Enemy’ with both showed some great creative song writing.

Tim Somerfield who was also the evenings sound man was next up looking very rock ‘n’ roll, almost like a cross between Slash of Guns’n’ Roses and Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. He performed a well executed cover of ‘Mountains’ by Biffy Clyro along with a Incubus song requested by someone in the audience.

Si Genero was the fourth and final support before the main attraction. He describes himself as a one man tsunami, he has a really good vocal range with even a bit of beat boxing to accompany his songs thrown in for good measure. His guitar was played at a fast pace offering a thoroughly entertaining set of self composed material.

Dave Mcpherson is totally comfortable in surroundings such as this, as he has a residency in a venue such as this in his home town of Brentwood. He has been a regular visitor to Dorset with previous shows at Mr Kyps, Champions and Chords nicely building himself up a fan base of loyal followers. The set is mainly based of new compositions from ‘The Hardship Diaries’ including opener ‘Hearts Need Blood’, Before I Even Had You’ and the great ‘Hibernation’.

Dave is always careful to address and include the audience as part of his show. There is always some interesting Essex charm banter from him which gives another interesting dimension to the gig. There are of course a few covers thrown in for good measure including Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ and the now customary Boom Boom(Shake the Room) with extra audience participation. An all round great evening showcasing some great local talent along with an up coming legend who seems to get better and better with every passing day.
