Thin Lizzy2011 is the 25th Anniversary of the death of Ireland’s most famous ‘Rocker’ Phil Lynott who has become one of rocks most famous icons. He formed the band Thin Lizzy in Dublin in 1969 and the remaining members of the band Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton have regrouped to mark the Anniversary with a new line up to bring the legacy of Phil Lynott to a whole new generation of rock fans. The line-up has been bolstered by Marco Mendoza(Bass), Def Leppard’s Viv Campbell(Guitar) and Belfast born Ricky Warwick of ‘The Almighty’ has been given the honoured task of singing the lead vocals. The band arrive in Southampton as part of the virtually ‘Sold Out’ 14 date tour of the UK which is also set to go to major cities in Europe during the coming months.

Tonight’s support are Seattle’s super confident The Supersuckers who arrived on stage with the rash comment that they want to become everybody’s new favourite band. The band produced a fast paced, hard rocking performance with numbers such as ‘How To Maximize Your Kill Count’, ‘The Evil Powers of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and ‘Pretty F**ked Up’ with front man Eddie Spaghetti trying to get the audience (unsuccessfully) to sing the chorus along with the band. He also encouraged everyone to give the band an ‘American middle finger’ with 100% take up! The band left the stage after a 30 minute set which showed honestly that most of the audience were here only for the main attraction.

At around 9pm the house lights dimmed. The huge black curtain covering the stage dropped to the floor revealing an elaborate stage production with two video screens, mirror balls and a huge bright illuminated multicoloured ‘Thin Lizzy’ logo. The band launched into ‘Are You Ready’ and were greeted by thousands of delighted fans who were ready to revel in a night of rock music dedicated to the legend that is Phil Lynott. The band pulled out all the stops and put in a performance of mammoth proportions, with Ricky Warwick giving an impressive performance on vocals, showing he had more than done his homework with various comments throughout the set referring to pieces of dialect Phil used to say on stage. The band left the stage after a rousing version of ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’ only to be bought back with the crowd chanting “Lizzy Lizzy” , a three song encore followed with the crowd lapping up every last moment. As the six piece took their finals bows there was a Dubliner looking down from above with a big smile of approval on his grinning face.
